Sony intends to take third place in the global smartphone market

Sony has announced its intention to become the third largest smartphone maker in the world, it will come close to Apple and Samsung Electronics. For the place the Japanese will have to fight with the best Chinese manufacturers of smartphones, in particular companies Huawei Technology and ZTE.

Sony will approach each market separately, said Kunimasa Suzuki (Kunimasa Suzuki), speaking at a briefing in Tokyo. This means that the Japanese company will focus on the production of low-cost smartphones to developing countries.

In the latest quarter ended December 31, 2012, the share of Sony in the global smartphone market was 4.5 percent – the fourth place in the ranking of research firm IDC. The share of Huawei and ZTE had on 4.9 and 4.3 percent, respectively. As for Samsung and Apple, these two companies still hold more than half of the market.
