USM to Slim slots for Serial ATA finest

The Serial ATA International Organization (SATA-IO) has announced the availability of a new specification called “Universal Storage Module slim” (Slim USM), with which the standard connector for storage media starts and the time of Ultrabooks shelves.

USM’s first name defined standard dimensions, paving the way for the emergence of receptacles for storage into all sorts of consumer products such as televisions, media players or computers. This specification has unfortunately not had the expected enthusiasm, since it is so far exploited only by a few manufacturers Seagate and computer cases, but the intention was laudable. The new specification “USM Slim” returns for its height of the receptacle from 14.5 to 9 mm, which allows products that are generally more for providing a location, in which would then slide a hard drive or an SSD whose power connectors and SATA 6 Gbps to be automatically would trigger.

This specification is one of the novelties of the future Serial ATA Revision 3.2, which is not known yet other inputs, but it is already available to members of SATA-IO. Some products like Seagate GoFlex Slim have already used.
