Canon 6D Footage example occurs shot using a prototype

If you’re dying to look at the quality of the video recording of the new Canon 6D, today’s your lucky day. BBC freelance operator Behiri Johnny got his hands on one of the cameras to check on creating a video that profiles small Austrian chocolate shop called Xocolat.

Behiri notes that it was testing a pre-production “beta” model, so that the results you achieve when you get your hands on the production model may be slightly different:

Canon 6D is the latest in a family full frame Canon HDSLR, and frankly, there is simply no substitute for a full frame sensor “look.” The footage was taken with the camera pre-production model, and I hope the video quality in the final version will be improved.

The video was filmed using the Samyang 35mm, Canon 70-200 F / 4, Tokina 11-16mm. All but the interview was shot using only the light from ISO 640 to 1250.

For another look at how the camera performs at higher sensitivities, but the second video shot in Behiri CHI 800 and 1250 using the Canon 24-70mm at F / 4 (no sound in it):

Behiri says that, while the camera records a very clean high ISO shots (1250 is “very useful”), the camera has a number of disadvantages as well, which include severe moire, soft images, not the headphone jack, and a lack of clean HDMI output.
