Samsung may start production of flexible displays, AMOLED this quarter

Samsung may begin production of flexible displays, AMOLED in this quarter. However, the first generation of screens, called YOUM, will be protected by glass, which will deprive them of flexibility. Samsung says this action by the fact that the market has no devices in need of flexible displays. Perhaps the company wants to try out new technology in a more “light” field. Despite this, a new generation of screens still has several advantages over existing ones. Novelty has a thickness of 0.6 mm and is characterized by higher strength due to the use of film instead of glass as a substrate. Output fully flexible with no protective glass screens planned for 2014.

As we already reported, Samsung partner acts as the Japanese company Ube Kosan, which manufactures flexible plastic substrate.
